Departing Passengers

All departing passengers must be checked for any prohibited items before departure.  

Money and Currency ExchangeThe ‘Baht’ is the currency used in Thailand. 1 Baht is 100 Satang. The banknotes consist of 1,000 Baht (brown), 500 Baht (purple), 100 Baht (red), 50 Baht (blue), 20 Baht (green) and 10 Baht (brown). The coins consist of 25 Satang, 50 Satang, 1 Baht, 2 Baht, 5 Baht and 10 Baht.


Money and traveler’s cheques can be exchanged at hotels, shops, banks, department stores and currency exchange counters. The best place to exchange a traveler’s cheque is at a bank (passport has to be presented).
Passengers are allowed to bring any other foreign currencies in and out of Thailand; however, the amount must not exceed the amount stated by the Customs Department upon arrival.
Passengers leaving Thailand are allowed to take Thai currency not exceeding 50,000 Baht out of the country.


Prohibited Items : The Thai Government determines prohibited items which are not considered illegal to be imported to or exported out of Thailand, such as drugs; counterfeit coins or banknotes; pornographic books, pictures or items. When found, the prohibited items will be confiscated and should passengers be found guilty, they will be fined and prosecuted.

Prohibited items are items that are not permitted to be imported to or exported out of Thailand. They are as follows:
1. Drugs
2. Pornography articles
3. Pirated and counterfeit items
4. Counterfeit coins and banknotes
5. Preserved wildlife
Passengers found in possession, usage, manufacture, purchase, distribution, smuggling of drugs may face death penalty.

Restricted Items : Restricted items are items controlled by the law to be imported to or exported out of Thailand and require written consent from related government agencies. The consent letter must be presented to customs officers during customs clearance. Such items are:

Smoking tobacco cigarettes or 200 cigars and cigar weighing up to 250 grams of alcohol, 1 liter.
